The Department of Construction Code Enforcement and Inspections protects the health and safety of Township residents through the adminstration and enforcement of the construction and fire prevention codes adopted by the State.
The New Jersey Uniform Construction Code requires a Construction Permit to be obtained from the Construction Official before construction, enlargement, repair, renovation, alteration reconstruction, demolition or change of use of any building or structure. The Construction Official oversees the local administration of the UCC. They are assisted in this task by the Building, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection Subcode Officials each of whom is responsible for adminstration and enforcement of their respective subcode.
Department staff also administer and enforce New Jersey's Uniform Fire Code. To that end Township Fire Inspectors, under the supervision of the Fire Official, conduct annual inspections of all businesses and non-residential facilities, issue fire permits, inspect smoke and carbon monoxide detectors prior to the resale/reoccupancy of residences and other duties as defined in the Uniform Fire Code.
Inspections can be scheduled either by stopping at the Construction Office during business hours or by fax (609) 625-7063. The Department currently does not accept phoned in inspection requests.
